Dense & Pika haven’t been on the scene for a long time, but things are certainly looking good for their future. Originally only releasing a white label and then performing a 45 minute live set on the Boilerroom they were brought abruptly to the attention of big names such as Jackmaster and Midland. Since they unleashed their first 12” on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings, Dense & Pika became synonymous with ‘jammed out, club ready techno.’
Their latest release is a strange yet brilliant mix of heavy hitting techno and upbeat piano house. Beginning with a prevailing 4/4 bass the tune slowly develops into a seemingly typical techno vibe, until an apparently out-of-place set of piano chords comes in to give the song a completely new feel. In theory this song shouldn’t work, but in practice you start to wonder why more people haven’t taken this direction.
