Throwback: Norma Jean Bell – Nobody’s Gonna Love You

Norma Jean Bell is a Detroit legend, up with names like Moodyman, Carl Craig and Theo Parrish.  She’s a saxophonist, singer and producer and with a renowned Detroit based label Pandamonium behind her she has become arguably the biggest woman in house that side of the Atlantic; often referred to as the original house ‘diva’.

Today’s throwback record shows exactly why Bell is deserving of this status. A drum beat that oozes funk, alongside a slap bass and a sassy vocal from the woman herself hooks the listener instantly. The addition of a sax solo puts the cherry on the top of this incredible Detroit special. This is forward thinking house at its finest, this record could have been released yesterday and noone would be able to tell.

Released: 1996
