If you don’t know by now, I love Theo Parrish. A man made famous for his selective re-edits, varied releases and mind-blowing 4+ hour sets.
After learning he was playing in England this New Years I knew exactly where I’d be spending the first few hours of 2014. So, recently I’ve been getting excited looking through Theo’s huge back catalogue of releases and there are some that I can’t help but pay special attention to.
One that stood out in particular is a re-edit of a famous funk/soul song from the 1970’s with a ripping guitar and delicious vocal. As with most of his edits, Theo has respectfully rearranged the song in to a more linear, streamlined record that will fit more comfortably in a dance set. While at the same time suits his style of mixing: isolating certain areas of the EQ, emphasising certain instruments.
Although obviously credit is due to Minnie Riperton for the incredible original, Theo has certainly brought it up to date and ready to hit the dancefloors. Hopefully this one will be making an appearance on NYE.
