Throwback: Sylvia Striplin – You Can’t Turn Me Away

With exams looming, stress mounting, the need for the right music to carry us through these dark, library-confined days is everything. Sylvia Striplin’s effort with Roy Ayers is definitely of that much needed type – a slow burning disco-funk infused number that oozes style and soul.

Striplin’s effortlessly delivered vocals are what immediately struck me upon first discovering this track. Resembling Erykah Badu in her range and smoothness of delivery her vocals have an encapsulating and mesmerizing quality which merge so well with that distinctively funky guitar riff and drum backing.

Smoothness personified.
