Throwback: Thelma Houston – You Used To Hold Me So Tight

Since Kraftwerk  in the early 1960’s, synths have pretty much continuously dominated the pop charts.  Back in 1984, it was fairly hard to avoid heavy melodic synths, they were the instrument of choice if you wanted a pop hit. Many of these tunes, which were considered fairly cheesy at the time are now making a big comeback in a lot of underground scenes, aided in part by the’vinyl revival.  Every time I hit the dance floor the air seems to be filled with 80’s pop bangers, not that that is a bad thing.

Last time I was out grooving this little number came on and I’ve had it in my head ever since, I reckon it’s because of that beauty of a synth. Aside from a strange demonic sounding intro, Thelma Houston ‘You Used To Hold Me’ has most certainly still got the funk and of course, the sassy female singer. Even 30 years after its release it is still holding its own, this one is seemingly timeless

Released: 1984
