Nextup Event: Record Store Day 2014 (Saturday 19th April)

Vinyl enthusiasts unite, Record Store Day is upon us again and amongst lots of great presses of classic Rock and Indie records lies some great dance records too. This article will guide you through the best of what’s on offer this year.

Bonobo ft Szerdene – Get my Bearings (Exclusive Late Night Tales Donovan cover version)
Released late last year digitally, ‘Get my Bearings’ is plainly another example of how great Bonobo is; beautiful instrumental interplay and an expertly chosen vocalist this time in Szerdene.

Disclosure – Appollo
An encouraging reversion by Disclosure away from their more commercial orientations as of late. Still not their vintage best but the production levels are impressive as always.

The Field – From Here We Go Sublime
Sublime this album definitely is. Worthy of purchase based purely on the track ‘Over The Ice’, seen as the most hipster band in music, whatever that means, looking further into The Field’s sounds won’t disappoint you.

Roman Flugel // Mr G
This mouth-watering offering of 2 of dance music’s heavyweights sees Mr G remix Shenoda’s ‘All Ears’ track whilst Roman Flugel reworks Martin Dawson and Glimpses’ ‘Fat Controller’. All about Flugel’s remix for me, and being released specifically on vinyl for Record Store Day, it’s the most fitting record you could buy this weekend.

Kode 9 & Spaceape – Memories of the Future
A genre defining album, Hyperdub head honcho Kode 9 was in his prime back in 2006, epitomised by the cold hearted killer of a track ‘9 Samurai’. For any dubstep head this is an essential purchase.

Little Dragon – Klapp Klapp
Recent Little Dragon releases have seen the band move further and further away from their original acoustically driven sound and more into electronic experimentation. ‘Klapp Klapp’ is a beat swollen in a dominant aggressive guitar riff and snare stabs, which are  counteracted nicely by lead singer Yukimi Nagano’s delicate vocals.

Late Night Tuff Guy (LNTG) – Make Me Feel
Disco edit mastery once again from the one of the most reliable producers in the game.

Paul Johnson – Better than This
Not actually sure if this is the same Paul Johnson behind some great Dance Mania releases…either way this one’s a classic house anthem. Piano chords and bongos a plenty.

Shlohmo – Shlo-Fi EP
Atmospheric beauty coming from Shlohmos ‘Shlo-Fi EP’ now available on vinyl.

DJ Deeon – Wigged Out
Irresistible bassline grooves and vocals made available again to lovers of the Dance Mania Ghetto House sound. TIP!
