Lone’s latest album ‘Reality Testing’, the sixth in his already-accomplished discography, is due for release on R&S on the 16th of April. The Manchester-based producer has consistently impressed on the iconic label, with last year’s Airglow Fires being a particular critical success.
In contrast to the aforementioned Airglow Fires, 2 is 8 marks a return to the syncopated hip-hop stylings of Lone’s earlier work, and one technique immediately evident is the clever use of looped samples which creates the illusion of an irregular time signature while the track is actually in straight 4/4. Melodic synth lines and samples of children shouting contribute to the song’s joyous, almost carnival-like vibe: perfectly fitting for its summer release.
