Talented producer Nicolas Jaar is a firm favourite at Nextup Throwback. We’ve previously featured ‘Nico’s Feelin’ Good’ as a free download – one of his most famous edits – of Nina Simone’s 1965 ‘Feeling Good’ but today we turn back the clock to one of his lesser-known edits of gospel singer LaShun Pace. Surfacing around the 1970’s she hails from Atlanta.
What makes this LaShun Pace edit so great is that it opens up gospel to a wider audience. Jaar funks it up, treading through an awesome unstated bass, heading for the breakdown when the percussive elements and soulful background vocals are bound together. It’s those little guitar licks which make this song so addictive.
Perfect revision/BBQ music.
