Events worth leaving the house for: 8th-12th August

Manchester is truly spoiling us this weekend. WIth Floating Points playing for free (yes, free) at Soup Kitchen, Daniel Avery & Andrew Weatherall playing for pittance at an all-night extravaganza in Islington Mill and Yung Lean popping over on Tuesday to grace The Roadhouse.

Friday 8th
Soup Kitchen – 4th Birthday!
Floating Points / Pender Street Steppers / Hashman Deejay
Yes yes yes! Free before 12, punters will probably have to have their tea in Soup Kitchen to make this as it’s guaranteed to be rammed, with good reason. Get down early to see one of the UK’s favourite DJs for free, otherwise it’ll cost you a fiver after 12.

The Roadhouse – So Flute
Summer Sessions
Yes they have sick residents who’ll be spinning soul, disco and a whole lot more between the hours of 11-4.

Antwerp Mansion – Brain Machine
Dopplereffekt (live)
Enigmatic German duo – think Modeselektor, Moderat etc – have faced the curses of Islington Mill’s license and this show has now been moved to Antwerp Mansion. This is gonna be amazing no matter where it is and the move may even be a blessing in disguise as the dark and rugged confines of Antwerp will be suitably atmospheric.

Saturday 9th
Antwerp Mansion – Cowbell Radio
Dan Avery/A Love From Outer Space/Craig Bratley
Thank goodness for Antwerp Mansion, saving this day & night extravaganza from being forced to close. A silly lineup for a silly price and the crowd will be incredible. Daniel Avery never disappoints and A Love From Outer Space should be amazing as well.

Soup Kitchen – Chow Down
Mike Q & Cvnt Traxxx
After a storming summer party ft. Parris Mitchell, the Chow Down team are back, this time with Fade to Mind stalwart Mike Q on the decks, aided and abetted by Cvnt Traxxx who is known for his knowledge of the culture of vogue and ballroom (I’m not too sure about this myself). Guaranteed high-octane night.

Tuesday 12th
Cheating a bit for this one as it’s not the weekend, but it definitely deserves a mention:
The Roadhouse – PurpleSky
Sad Boys Collective (Yung Lean, Bladee, Yung Gud & Yung Sherman)
Yung Lean rarely comes to Manchester and he’s a personal favourite of mine so basically everyone get on down. Bound to be a good gig, be warned.
