With an upcoming set at Outlook Festival, a new EP and a tour this autumn, Submotion Orchestra seem keen to flaunt their new material. In addition to ‘Time Will Wait’ and ‘City Lights’, ‘2L84U’ is a promising release from ‘Alium’, which is due for release in November.
The overall quality and emotional depth of their music appears to have somewhat faded, progressing from the harrowing rawness of ‘Finest Hour’ to the slick but slightly boring ‘1968’ EP. However, Ruby Woods’ sensual vocals floating over delayed drum breaks and artfully-placed jazz chords show that Submotion will never cease to create magic with their trademark down-tempo mix of electronica and soul.
