Producing for the likes of Kanye West and Drake is no mean feat, and for some, Hudson Mohawke’s recent releases and ascent into super-stardom has left them cold. However, he’s been dropping tracks readily from his latest 4-track EP ‘Chimes’, suggesting a renaissance of the original style from previous albums ‘Satin Panthers’ and ‘Butter’.
‘King Kong Beaver’ is a short-and-sweet demonstration of the producer’s genre-defying creativity. Only HudMo could evoke a day in the life of an 8-bit dam-dweller with all manner of brash synths, warped vocals and hip-hop beats. He hints at both kitsch and futuristic, and shapes musical chaos into a well-formed piece brimming with personality. Due for release next week, the EP will be a sure-fire hit with fans old and new.
