Events Worth Leaving The House For: 13th-19th October (Leeds)

Monday 13th:

Vagabondz Live Sessions present Fatima & The Eglo Live Band @ Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen:

Event here

Fatima, everyone’s favourite Sweden-via-East London soul singer, comes to Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen, fresh off the back of her debut album Yellow Memories. The record – which boasted production from US underground royalty such as Oh No and Computer Jay, alongside UK stalwarts like Floating Points – was praised from all corners of the musical spectrum. Coming to Leeds with her are the Eglo Live Band and Alexander Nut, and after their excellent performance at Joshua Brooks, we couldn’t recommend it more.

Tuesday 14th:

Bigger Than Barry | Oneman, Frequency, Jo Kira, Reme @ The Faversham:

Event here

Oneman has a bit of a reputation for tearing Tuesday night sessions at Bigger Than Barry to absolute bits. When the genre-hopping Serato wizard is at the top of his game, he has just the right mix of new-wave grime, bass heavy house, forgotten garage classics, trapped out US hip-hop and the odd cheap thrill that can make the most dedicated chin strokers start to loosen up a bit. The Faversham provides a solid house party atmosphere to compliment his set, and Jo Kira and Reme are sure to bring it in their own right.

Thursday 16th:

Self/Titled & JANEfonda present…Omar S // Jasper James // Residents @ The Faversham:

Event here

Back to The Faversham again on Thursday, this time for Detroit auteur Omar S and Glasgow newcomer Jasper James to provide some top quality house music throughout the night. Omar S promises to infuse the classic rough and ready Motor City vibe onto proceedings, while Jasper James has a strong billing to live up to, following Optimo, Harri & Domenic and the Numbers crew as a Sub Club export. However, as Hari is his father after all, Optimo think his music is good enough to release, and he lives with Jack, he might just have picked up a few tricks on the way.

Mint Sessions with Josh Butler & Celsius @ Mint Club:

Event here

Mint’s new Thursday night brings Josh Butler & Celsius along to play their brand of new-school UK tech house. With ex-Leeds resident Butler making a name for himself due to releases on Moda Black & MTA, he will be happy to be back in a familiar surrounding to show off his progression as an artist.

Friday 17th:

[Pick of the week] Mono_cult present Innervisions w/ Dixon, Ame, Prins Thomas, Mark E, Optimo and Mr. Ties @ Canal Mills:

Event here

Arguably the biggest promoters in Leeds since Louche’s retirement, Mono_cult’s first show of the new student year brings in some heavyweight talent to re-establish itself. Innervisions kingpins Dixon and Ame boast more pulling power than most house DJs could dream of, and their saccharine tech-house tunes can be sure to have Room 1 full to the rafters all night. The heads haven’t been overlooked either: undisputed selection talent in the form of Mark E, Prins Thomas, Optimo and Mr. Ties has been brought along to make this one hard to miss even for those who can take or leave Dixon and Ame’s melodic style.

Troupe present Heidi, Maribou State, Capulet @ The Faversham:

Event here

Originating from London, Troupe bring their nightlife brand to The Faversham, enlisting the help of Radio 1 DJ Heidi to bring her Ibiza-esque jacking tech-house records along to whip the party into a frenzy. Supporting her are pop-house darlings Maribou State and up-and-comer Capulet.

Saturday 18th:

Back to Basics Gets Wired @ Wire:

Event here

Although we may have said earlier that Mono_cult were arguably the biggest promoters in Leeds, Back to Basics are certainly the most legendary. The longest running club night in the UK is not as regular as in its heyday, but any night that boasts 20/20 Vision’s Ralph Lawson and Dungeon Meat’s Tristan Da Cunha as residents doesn’t need to do much to keep the tickets selling. This one’s simply listed 10pm-late, and we can guarantee this one will carry on far past lights on.

Detonate presents Zed Bias Retirement Tour w/ Zed Bias, Loefah, Preditah, Mele, Benton & Chunky @ Canal Mills:

Event here

Zed Bias announced earlier this year he was going to hang up his headphones. Therefore, this may be one of the garage legend’s last ever Leeds date. Alongside him he brings Swamp 81 boss Loefah, grime prodigy Preditah, Liverpool’s Mele, breakbeat newcomer Benton and MC-turned-DJ Chunky. A great chance to witness a master at his craft before it’s too late, with a strong supporting cast to boot.
