It’s difficult to pick a favourite from ‘Madvillainy’, one of the defining albums of hip-hop and the debut masterpiece of Madlib and Doom. It’s been over a decade since its release and remains as the untrumpable standard for beatmakers and MCs alike.
‘All Caps’ has an irresistible cartoon caper vibe brought about by the crackly brass sample and old-school beat. Madlib creates a cinematic soundscape for his partner in crime to deliver a casual yet powerful flow to remind us to remember ALL CAPS when you spell the man name. By no means the only standout track on the album, but certainly one of the most artfully crafted.
