Events worth leaving the house for: November

With Winter setting in as the nights grow longer and Summer seems like a distant memory, a good night out provides comfort like a mug of mulled wine from the Christmas Markets (beginning 14th November). And boy, there’s a lot of them. Festivals are over so night clubs are reigning supreme. Check out the best of what Manchester has to offer:

Wednesday 5th
Shabazz Palaces
The first rap act to sign to Seattle-based grunge label Sub Pop, these guys do nothing in the traditional way, as evidenced by their sound – a futuristic, psychedelic mixture of audaciously progressive beats and intricate lyrics.

Friday 7th
Roadhouse – BPM
Sudanim, Miss Modular, Cyphr & Fraxinus
Welcoming the Her Records camp to Manchester, BPM have one of the most promising up & coming UK Record labels to showcase to BPM. With influences of Ballroom, Jersey, Grime, Bass & Dark energy infused in their productions, expect nothing but good vibes!

Phife Dawg (A Tribe Called Quest)
A Manchester debut for arguably one of the most influencial Hip Hop artists ever to have risen. This is a night for music fans across the world, never mind the UK. Pairing this with the launch of a new underground 1000 capacity venue is an overwhelming prospect. [Not to mention Vent’s 24hour licence]. Phife will be delivering us an exclusive live rap performance of all the Tribe classics with a few of his own solos for good measure backed by brother in arms DJ Rasta Root.

Eastern Bloc – Love Dose
Taking a strictly vinyl approach, he is essential listening whenever his selections come to light and not one to confine himself, his mixes are rarely constrained to one style or even… genre. His sets see him constantly building, adding layer on layer to his sound that can punch as hard as his contemporaries yet plunge to depths that very few dare. These skills have already taken him to FABRIC, TRESOR, BERGHAIN and regularly to home town clubs REX and CONCRETE.

Soup Kitchen – Zutekh
Berlin based trio ItaloJohnson like to keep themselves to themselves. Despite this, the raw analogue music they have released on their own eponymous label has won them many fans in recent times. And it’s easy to see why, because it bulges with charm be it a loopy techno
banger, bouncy house cut or something more cerebral, exclusively released on vinyl 12′ and 10’s. As DJ’s their ears are as well attuned as they are in the booths of the most respected clubs in the world, where the three of them excel at lacing together pumping, dancefloor wrecking DJ sets over extended periods of time that lean on the best that house and techno has to offer.
