Throwback: John Ozila – Let’s go boogie

In 1979 John Ozila released an 8 track LP entitled ‘Boogie Salsa’ (Vogue). The most famous and readily available track from the LP, ‘Funky Boogie’, is an absolute stunner and most certainly belongs in any funky collection. Dig a little deeper and the whole LP is full of luscious funky numbers, ‘L’Orange Bleue’ checks in as another classic.

After much deliberation however,  I finally settled on ‘Let’s go boogie’ as my favourite. From the emphatic opening crescendo to Ozila’s booming vocals, the first minute is pure bliss. The track rolls on, powered by an instrumental that is both energetic and brazen, until around the three and a half minute mark where things get really funky for a while. This is a groovy track that I would certainly pay money to hear out. Enjoy.
