Events worth leaving the house for: December (Manchester)

The winters are setting in but that doesn’t mean Manchester is winding down. On the contrary, it’s winding up to New Years. The final month of the year sees a lot of techno for the Rainy City – perfect music to stomp your troubles away/get warmed up with showers of disco, house, funk and afrobeat. Plus more, if you know where to look (Nextup Throwback). This page will be updated as the month progresses.

Thursday 11th
The Roadhouse – Stevie Wonderland
Craig Charles
Stevie Wonderland have been going for almost two years now and my, how time has flown. The boys still manage to keep their parties relatively cheap and with everyone’s favourite I’m a Celeb contestant, Craig Charles at the helm, champagne will be flowing and invigorating that post-deadline joy. Get your Christmas spirits lifted with Stevie’s Christmas Cracker.

Friday 12th
Antwerp Mansion – Nine Lives
Benton, Mella Dee
For their third event at the Mansion, Nine Lives bring Swamp81 stalwart, Benton and up-and-comer Mella Dee for a night of rip roaring garage and grime, sure to get the pulses racing.

Soup Kitchen presents…
Craig Smith (6th Borough Project)
With these  events listings we try and remain as impartial as possible however I’ve got to confess: I love 6th Borough Project. They’ve been going for a while now so whilst I haven’t heard any of Craig’s solo material/DJ skills, it’s pretty likely that his experience and knowledge in the field will result in a crate digging, musical masterclass which should not be missed.

Saturday 13th
The Ram – Words are Weapons
Verb T vs. Raptor (NorthVsSouth)
Both word artistes are infamous in their own right so battling this will be a battle to remember, featuring a mix of grime and rap clashes from some of the best around. Afternoon event which begins at 5pm.

Sankeys – Selective Hearing
Rolando, Shifted
Selective Hearing always manage to pull bookings out of the bag and they definitely have with this one. Featuring Shifted – AVIAN boss and the guy responsible for one of THE great techno releases of the past 3 years ‘Control’ and Rolando, whose work with Robert Hood at Underground Resistance means he’s pretty well versed in the likes of the Motor City will be bringing some of that over to Manchester.
