Throwback: Last Magpie – Club Whore

Last Magpie is an intriguing producer as much of his work over the past few years borders on eclectic and exploratory and yet it never quite reaches that level. Instead the distinct US Garage influences he often draws from keep his music rather light and accessible.

There is no doubt that nestled within his body of releases there are some beautifully leftfield pieces of electronica such as ‘Hypno‘ or ‘AdLibitum‘ that roll on with disregard for the dancefloor, yet they maintain that quality of accessibility that makes his music so easily listenable. Last Magpie is still finding his feet and he has potential to reach even higher levels of quality and success if he keeps plying his trade. Whatever the case may be, he will be an intriguing producer and DJ to follow over the next few years as he furthers develops his sounds.

Given this tracks name, the intention is rather obvious from the start and as such the production needs to be high class in order to stand out in a rather crowded field. This time round it feels as if Magpie pieces everything together and the resultant track is smooth and professional. The two different vocal loops in play throughout the track add some depth and soul but the real winners are the funky claps and hi-hats that are dispersed across the track at just the right times to give this one a lot more jack than you would expect.

Last Magpie will play Joshua Brooks this Friday (the 24th) and is certainly one to watch.
