Event news: Gottwood 2016

One-of-a-kind festival, Gottwood, returns to its picturesque setting in the forests of Northern Wales. A hop and a jump away from local Northern cities such as Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield, it has become renowned for attracting a plethora of colourful characters, as evidenced in one of the beautiful post-event videos (see below for last year’s edition).

The first line-up announcement for 2016 is, arguably, its strongest yet. With returners such as Ben UFO b2b Craig Richards, who closed the festival in phenomenal style last year, Move D who brought the house down with both of his sets and festival mainstays, 2 Bad Mice, who were one of the surprising: least-hyped yet most deserving, highlights of the weekend.

This line-up shows a bigger shift towards the techno side of electronic music, with Berlin dream team representing: Prosumer, Virginia and Tama Sumo; Zip and Mr G coming out for Perlon and the UK techno out in full force, including Livity Sound shining through in the form of Hodge b2b Kowton.

Finally, we’ll get the chance to witness Awesome Tapes from Africa, alongside Beautiful Swimmers, who smashed it at 1 Primrose St for Hi Ku earlier this year.

Andrew Weatherall b2b Roman Flugel will be an unmissable set and signals the festival moving towards a slightly more mature crowd. Ruf Dug brings Glowing Palms and FYI Chris to the glade – a perfect setting for their grooving, infectious balearic beats – heading up the Manchester contingent which is out in full force.

Black Josh, Krywald & Farrar, Bastien Keb and Cassio Kohl aren’t the biggest on the list but ones to look out for – if not at Gottwood, it’s definitely worth catching them when they’re in town.

Prepare yourselves for what looks set to be the best Gottwood so far…
